  • Chi Pheo is a bitterly realistic depiction of how a group of good-natured Vietnamese farmers in the early 1940s, under extreme poverty, had to resort to criminal means to survive. Through the traffic life story of Chi Pheo, Nam Cao criticizes the brokenness of the society then, but at the same time, sheds light on human's dignity even in the darkest moment.
