Uncle Hac

Uncle Hac is a short story depicting the struggles of poor Vietnamese farmers in the early 1940s, prior to the August Revolution. Uncle Hac is one such farmer who often has to take odd jobs to make ends meet. He lives alone with a dog which he dotingly names Gold. After a prolonged illness, he falls into extreme poverty, and is forced to sacrifice Gold in order to survive. With this bleak reality as the story backdrop , "Uncle Hac" also highlights the kindness and loyalty that people extend to one another.
